IT'S GAME DAY BOYS AND GIRLS!

It's Thursday and Thursday always means gameday in our house, or at least it does this year. Freshmen and JV teams have their games on Thursday evenings while Friday nights are set aside for the Varsity teams. We really look forward to Tanner's games and just watching him play. It's been a really fun ride and is so awesome to watch him grow and get better week by week. Tonight was no exception. He played a huge portion of the game, which is a switch from what has been happening during previous weeks' games. We've been quite surprised by that, honestly, because he has caught everything that has been thrown to him and he can definitely run that ball. He plays wide receiver/corner back. Those of you who know me know that I know nearly zilch about football so it's really hard for me to describe the plays and such but believe me, I know enough about football to know when my kid is out there kicking some ***bleep***! And man, it's exhilarating! It seriously gives me goosebumps when he does something spectacular like that! I thought the most awesome move tonight was the one where he maneuvered just out of reach of #48 trying to push him out of the way. After this shot #48 was on the ground! Way to go, Jack!!!

The score was 31-6 and man it was a good game. This was a Crosstown Showdown against McKinney North and we held them off until the fourth quarter when they finally scored their first touchdown.

Next week is homecoming week and this is a new experience for us as parents and a very exciting one for Tanner. It is so hard to believe that we have a high schooler among us and that all the things we experienced at that age are now being experienced by Tanner. It's the strangest feeling, almost surreal. I guess I still haven't come to grips with the fact that he is growing up so much more quickly than I even thought possible and I am even feeling that rejection of not being needed and, while it is probably only in my head, that he will not need me anymore. As we sat in the car up at the high school waiting for Tanner to change I caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a girlfriend of one of the football players bringing him a towel to wipe his sweaty brow. Just then is when it struck me - he will one day soon, sooner than I'd like, have a girlfriend and then he won't need me. At this point he doesn't have a girlfriend and the strange thing is he's not doing anything different than before and he needs me just like he has always needed me but I guess I am probably preparing myself for the day when that actually happens and I realize it. Eric assures me that is definitely not and will never be the case. He says that Tanner will always need me but he will just need me in a different way. I have to admit that I am truly not really ready to be forced to let go. I was hoping for just a little bit more time..................more time with my little boy needing his mommy.
